Counselor in Training

Take your first step towards a career in education.

Our Counselor in Training (CIT) is a great opportunity to build skills and networks for high school students (16 years+) who are interested in a career in education.

CITs are assigned to Pathways’ after-school program for children ages 5-12 during the school year and summers.

Through working with our after-school staff, CITs develop the skills necessary to be an effective leader and a potential educator in the future. While CITs are not Pathways’ staff members, they are treated with the utmost respect and take on responsibilities critical to the success of our students.

CITs responsibilities include:

  • Participation in an orientation session with our Curriculum Coordinator to understand the roles and responsibilities in our after-school program.

  • Spending time in classrooms working with groups of students on projects, homework and social skills

  • Assisting with student meals and transitions on/off the school buses

  • Attending summer field trips to provide mentorship and support for students

  • Supporting individual students in times of need

  • Facilitating recreational activities in our classrooms, gymnasium, and playground

The CIT program runs year-round with capacity for five CITs.

Three CITs will be working two hours per day two days per week, and two CITs will be working two hours per day three days per week.

School credits (from Gloucester high school) and monetary stipend (from Pathways) will be provided upon completion of each trimester’s required hours and each student will receive 2.5-5 credits based on hours worked as well as $200 for CITs working two days per week and $300 for CITs working three days per week.
