Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

A love of reading, a lifetime of opportunity.

Pathways for Children is a proud partner of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Working together, we are helping children in Essex County develop early literacy skills and develop a life-long passion for reading.

All children, from birth to five years old, who live in Beverly, Essex, Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Peabody, Rockport, and Salem are eligible to participate.

There is NO COST to parents – and there are no income requirements. This is truly a gift from us to your family.

Children who register will receive a new book every month mailed to their homes. Every book is age-appropriate and hand-selected by the Imagination Library team. The littlest children receive board books to withstand the toughest teethers. In contrast, older children receive books that explore the larger world, such as the award-winning “Last Stop on Market Street” about the special bond between a boy and his grandmother and their adventures through the city.

Children can be registered anytime before their fifth birthday, and multiple children at each home can be enrolled. Check the availability and sign up above. We look forward to helping you build your library for a life of learning.

“My boys get so excited every time their books arrive! This has been a gift for our family– and not just the physical books, but also the gift of spending time together and learning a love of reading.”

— Chris, Salem, parent

FAQs

+ I have two children under the age of five; can I sign them both up?

Yes! As long as you live in a town covered by the program, you can sign up each child in your household under the age of 5. Each child will receive their own age-appropriate book, every month.

+ What types of books are delivered?

All types–dependent on the age of the child signed up.

+ Is it really free?

Incredible as it is, yes. These books are truly gifts and free to all families. The program is funded through a combination of support –including through contributions made by your neighbors, generous donors, and supported by local government officials.
