Winter 2013 Giving Opportunities
At Pathways we believe that stronger families not only create opportunities for children to succeed, but enrich our community as a whole. Providing these support services often requires resources beyond the scope of our already uncertain government funding. This is when we turn to the community for their support. There are many ways you as a community member can help a child achieve their potential. Here are a few.
Pathways' Holiday Store
Everyone enjoys the spirit of giving and the magical feeling of the holiday season. For some of our families it is difficult to find the additional resources needed to provide gifts for their children. This is when we turn to our community members. At Pathways, a “holiday store” is put into place made up of donated gifts. Parents can choose a limited number of gifts for their children free of charge. As a donor you have the opportunity to keep the magic of the holidays alive for a child. This can be a great opportunity to teach your children the benefits of giving and the magic of the holidays. One persons giving can instill the spirit and magic of the season in a whole family. Pathways will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys for our Holiday Store at many local businesses on the North Shore. Click here for donation locations. Donation boxes will be in stores after November 20th. Donations will be accepted until December 17th.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Have you ever asked a neighbor for a cup of sugar or to meet your kids at the bus stop because you are running late? We all look to our neighbors for help from time-to-time. In this spirit Pathways has launched a new initiative to connect the families we serve with their neighbors in the community – Neighbors Helping Neighbors. This new giving opportunity allows community members to help the families we serve throughout the year as specific needs arise. Sometimes families need things like bedding, car seats or sneakers. Other times there is a bigger need like a refrigerator or help paying their heating bill. We know that the children in the home must have these basic needs met in order to succeed. Our social service team works closely with the family to try and meet these needs independently but sometimes they have to ask a neighbor. If you are interested in being a neighbor we can call on throughout the year let us know.
